Snow Socks vs. Snow Chains – What Are the Benefits?
The main practical advantage of snow socks is the combination of low weight, compact storage and easy handling. While traditional snow chains use metal components, a snow sock is pulled over the tyre like a textile cover.
This makes snow socks especially appealing as winter equipment to keep ready in the car. They take up relatively little space, and you avoid handling heavy metal chains when the weather suddenly changes.
Snow chains may still be relevant in particularly demanding conditions. Always check the rules at your destination as well as the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations for winter equipment.
Easy Installation Around the Tyre
Installation is done by first pulling the snow sock over the upper part of the tyre. The car is then moved a short distance so the remaining section can be pulled over the rest of the tyre. The product’s installation illustration shows the process in three steps.
- Pull the snow sock as far over the tyre as possible.
- Move the car so the part of the tyre that was previously against the ground becomes accessible.
- Pull on the rest of the snow sock and check that it sits correctly around the tyre.
The manufacturer’s illustration also indicates approximately 5 minutes for installation.
Max. 40 km/h with Snow Socks Fitted
The stated maximum speed is 40 km/h when the snow socks are fitted. They are designed as an aid for driving in difficult winter conditions and are not intended for normal high-speed driving.
Remove the snow socks again when road conditions no longer require them, and always follow the product instructions for use.
Washable at 30°C
After use, the snow socks may become wet and dirty from snow, slush and road surfaces. The care label on the product states washing at 30°C. Follow the other washing symbols on the product label and allow the snow socks to dry before long-term storage.

It is important to choose snow socks based on the full tyre size – not just the wheel diameter.

Always choose the variant based on the full tyre size. Two cars with, for example, 18" wheels can still require different snow sock sizes because tyre width and profile may differ.
